ODD SEA

My girlfriend recently bought me a small Miyoo Mini Plus console that can play PICO-8 games. I knew of PICO-8 from some time in university where the idea for organizing a small gamejam using it was floated around. But I had never tried it.

TIL NOW!!

Odd-Sea is a tiny runner(?) type game. It's a man-and-sea type game.
I made this game over 2 weeks in July 2026 after going to see Nolan's frankly dissapointing "The Oddisey" on IMAX, the opening weekend.  That weekend my girlfriend and I had decided we would try to make a game for PICO-8 themed around the tale. It took more than one weekend to have something playable with enough substance to merit posting, but I think I made it!

Dodge tricky, proceduraly generated rows of obstacles that get harder (and eventually impossible) the further you go. Control your vessel with left and right. Collisions will cost you men. Venture into the underworld by entering Charybdis' whirlpools when they glow. Find two special powerups and try to get as far as possible!

The intro tune is based on a melody from "Storm" from Jorge Rivera-Herrans's Epic The Musical.
